Escorting Police Reform, Prabowo Is Believed To Choose Senior Figure As National Police Chief

JAKARTA The executive director of the National Political Studies, Adib Miftahul, believes that President Prabowo Subianto will appoint a more senior figure from Listyo Sigit Prabowo in the event of a change in the position of the National Police leadership.

The reason is, a senior general figure is needed to oversee the reform of the National Police which has been echoed by the expectations and demands of the wider community. Prabowo is inclined to choose a senior figure. This is an entry point in an effort to oversee the Polri reform agenda," he said, Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Moreover, Prabowo has a character who highly respects the chain of command in each TNI dimension including the National Police. Therefore, Prabowo is said to not be imitating the policies of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who stepped over a number of forces when appointing Listyo as the National Police Chief.

"I don't think Pak Prabowo will follow or repeat Jokowi's way of choosing the National Police Chief if he decides to replace Listyo Sigit. If that's the case, I think from the names circulating now, the opportunity lies with Dedi Prasetyo who in addition to the 1990 Police Academy is also an academic," explained Adib.

The two names that are predicted to be the replacement for Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the National Police Chief are Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo and Head of BNN, Komjen Suyudi Ario Seto. Dedi is an alumni of the National Police Academy in 1990, and in the National Police institution he was given the responsibility to realize the government's target of self-sufficiency in corn and the formation of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) which became the backbone of the Free Nutrition Eating program. Meanwhile, Suyudi Ario Seto, graduated from the Police Academy in 1994, who was experienced in the field of detective before being trusted to be the Head of BNN.

Although the two names have been rumored to be the police chief, until now there has been no decision from President Prabowo Subianto to replace Listyo Sigit. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad have compactly denied the news about Suppres regarding the change of National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo and the names of his successors.
