JAKARTA - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the National Police faced challenges to increase public trust.

According to Mahfud, the change must be made because the National Police is currently being highlighted by the public, especially after several events that occurred during the demonstration some time ago.

Public trust is fundamental because it will affect the effectiveness of the law enforcement process carried out by the Police.

Therefore, he said, the National Police must return to their identities, namely as public servants as well as law enforcers.

"The fundamental solution for the National Police is to return to their identity. Tri Brata and Catur Prasetya must be imagined, by sticking to Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, so that the Police remain trusted by the people as legal guards and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Mahfud.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Police Education and Training Institute (Kalemdiklat) Komjen Pol. Chryshnanda Dwilaksana also agrees with Mahfud that the Police need change.

Chryshnanda emphasized the importance of transformation of Polri education based on morality, literacy, and dialogue of civilization.

"Smart politics and media policing are key, but the most important thing is to maintain public trust by staying away from corruption, arrogance, and taking sides with crime," Chryshanda said.

With this total change, it is hoped that the public can accept the existence of the Police more so that the performance in enforcing the law will increase.
