Coordinating Minister Yusril: Decision To Establish A Riot Fact Finding Team In The Hands Of The President

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the decision on the proposed formation of the Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) related to the demonstration that led to riots at the end of last August was entirely in the hands of President Prabowo Subianto.

"If he makes this decision, then as his assistant, we will facilitate the formation of an independent team to reveal all the facts that have occurred," said Coordinating Minister Yusril in a written statement to reporters in Jakarta, Friday, September 12.

Yusril revealed that President Prabowo had listened to the aspirations expressed by a number of figures who were members of the Nation's Conscience Movement (GNB) during a meeting at the State Palace on Thursday, September 11. That a special investigation team is needed to establish a special investigation team to uncover the demonstration events that have caused 10 casualties throughout Indonesia.

However, Yusril said that until this afternoon President Prabowo had not given any directions to his assistants to be followed up.

"In discussions with figures from the Nation's Conscience Movement, President Prabowo listened to the proposal to form the investigation team. The President stated that he considered and considered the idea a good idea," said Yusril.

Yusril added, according to President Prabowo's direction, law enforcement officials have taken firm steps to uncover various acts of violation of the law that occurred during the demonstration that led to chaos.

Of the thousands of people arrested, said Yusril, dozens of people have been named suspects in connection with acts of vandalism, looting, theft, and incitement.

"From checking and taking the field to Polda Metro Jaya, Polda South Sulawesi, and Polrestabes Makassar, I can confirm that one firm step has been taken against those involved in the demonstration which ended in chaos some time ago," concluded Yusril.
