JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences for the flood disaster in Bali which claimed lives, while affirming Malaysian solidarity with the Indonesian people.

"At this painful moment, I stand in solidarity with President Prabowo and the people of Indonesia. Malaysia mourns with you," Anwar said in a press statement quoted by ANTARA, Malaysia, on Friday, September 12.

He called the disaster a tragic event and prayed for those affected to be given fortitude.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life due to flash floods in Bali. My prayers and thoughts accompany the family who have lost loved ones, and those whose homes and livelihoods have been affected," said Anwar.

"We will continue to pray. The Balinese people are in our hearts, hopefully they will recover quickly from this disaster," he added.

The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll from floods in Bali reached 16 people and all of them had been evacuated.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that based on reports from the joint team, one of the two missing victims was found.
