Molotov Thrower At 6 Police Posts In Yogyakarta Arrested, The Motive For Joining Trends On Social Media

Yogyakarta Police arrested a man with the initials ARS (24), the alleged perpetrator of throwing stones and Molotov at six police posts in the Sleman area and the city of Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta Police Chief Kombes Eva Guna Pandia said the arrests were made after a joint team traced CCTV footage at 41 points that the perpetrators had passed.

"From there it was concluded that the perpetrator of the throwing was one person wearing a black helmet, a gray hoddie and black pants wearing sandals and using Vario's motorbike carrying out throwing at all points (police posts)," he said during a press conference at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters, Antara, Thursday, September 11.

A joint team from the Yogyakarta Police, Densus 88, and Resmob Polresta Sleman, then raided the house of the alleged perpetrator in Godean, Sleman on Wednesday at around 03.00 WIB. From the results of the raid, several pieces of evidence were obtained such as motorbikes, clothes and helmets used during the action.

"But at that time the perpetrator was not found at home, he had fled," he said.

After persuasive efforts were made to the family, according to Eva, ARS, who worked odd jobs, was finally handed over to the police on the same day at around 10.00 WIB.

From the perpetrator's statement, the construction of Molotov was assisted by a colleague with the initials DSP (21) alias Yaya who was then arrested at his residence in Kasihan, Bantul at around 17.00 WIB.

"The DSP that prepared the bottle (molotov), dug the lid, and held it at the time this ARS poured gasoline and installed the axis," Eva explained.

The police chief explained that the motive for throwing six police posts with Molotov and stones was to join in because he saw content on social media related to the management of several police stations.

Previously, ARS had dealt with the police because they had been involved in a commercial case three times.

Kasatreskrim Yogyakarta Police Commissioner of Police Riski Adrian Lubis added, in his action, ARS threw stones and Molotov at six police posts on Thursday (4/9) randomly, following the route that was traversed for approximately 40 minutes from 05.10 WIB to 05.50 WIB.

The six police posts include the Jogja Monument Traffic Post Kembali (Monjali), Jombor Traffic Post, Pelem Gurih Traffic Post, Denggung Police Post, Kronggahan Police Post in Sleman Regency, and Pingit Traffic Post in Yogyakarta City.

According to him, specifically for throwing Molotovs, it was only carried out at the Pingit and Monjali Police Posts, while other police posts were stoned.

"After committing his actions that morning he had time to work first. Because he fell while throwing, he gave permission at 12 noon because his hands hurt. At that time he worked as a rough worker as a builder," he said.

In the afternoon, ARS tried to escape after learning that his actions had gone viral on social media.

For their actions, the two perpetrators were named suspects. ARS was charged with Article 187 1 e and Article 187 2 e of the Criminal Code, and Article 187 1 e in conjunction with Article 53 paragraph (1) and Article 187 2 e in conjunction with Article 53 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison.

Meanwhile, DSP alias Yaya was charged with Article 187 to 1 e in conjunction with Article 56 to 1 e, Article 187 to 2 e in conjunction with Article 56 to 1 e, and Article 187 to 1 in conjunction with Article 53 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 56 to 1 e and Article 187 to 2 e in conjunction with Article 53 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 56 to 1 e to the Criminal Code, as assistants. The maximum penalty for DSP 5 years in prison.
