Regarding The Flow Of Corruption Money For Hajj Quota, The KPK Calls The Head Of The Ministry Of Religion To Enjoy

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the flow of money in the corruption case of quotas and the implementation of Hajj in 2023-2024 at the Ministry of Religion was accepted in stages. The leadership peak is also said to be enjoying it.

"In the ministry, the end (of leadership, ed), yes, minister. In the ministry, the minister ends up," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu to reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, September 10.

Asep did not specify the figure of the top leader further. He only explained that this mode of acceptance began with the sale and purchase of an additional 20,000 hajj quotas from the Saudi Arabian government.

The money, continued Asep, did not go directly through the top leadership. He said, there were intermediaries who made receipts.

"So, accepting according to or not receiving something, it doesn't always have to be accepted by the person concerned," he said.

He said the acceptance could be through an assistant.

"I don't have to do (acceptance, ed) myself," said Asep, who also serves as Director of KPK Investigation.

"Like the same thing, for example, money for me, it was given to me. Well, because the needs are also served by the assistant, I can say, just pray to my assistant," he continued.

Previously reported, the KPK has issued a general investigation warrant (sprindik) for alleged corruption in the addition of quotas and the implementation of Hajj in 2023-2024. This institution reasoned that the issuance was carried out so that they could make forced efforts.

The general Sprindik uses Article 2 Paragraph 1 and/or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2021 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. This means that there are state losses that occur due to this corrupt practice.

State losses in the corruption case of quota and Hajj for the period 2023-2024 are said to have reached more than IDR 1 trillion. This amount is still increasing because it is only the initial calculation of the KPK which continues to coordinate with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

No suspect has been named in this case yet. However, investigators have examined a number of witnesses, including Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as former Minister of Religion during the reign of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Then, Yaqut's house has also been searched by investigators. From this activity, a number of evidences were confiscated by investigators such as electronic evidence in the form of cellphones and documents.
