Bandung City Government Waits For Ministry Of Transportation's Decision On Bandung Zoo Management

BANDUNG - The City Government (Pemkot) of Bandung, West Java, is waiting for the decision of the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) regarding the management status of conservation institutions at the Bandung Zoo (Bandung Zoo) which is currently still in a management dispute.

"We are still waiting for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights' answer to ensure the management of Bandung Zoo in the future," said Head of Sub Division of Regional Property Security and Recording of Supplies for Regional Finance and Assets Agency (BKAD) Bandung Herman Hari Rustaman as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 8.

Herman said his party had coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation to ascertain whether the conservation agency permit for the Tamansari Wildlife Foundation, as the manager of the Bandung Zoo (Bandung Zoo), would be continued or revoked.

"If it is revoked, of course there will be a temporary management team appointed by the Ministry of Forestry. That is the authority of the Ministry of Transportation," he said.

According to him, the Bandung City Government as the land owner is only waiting for the Ministry of Transportation's decision. If the permit is revoked, the ministry will provide a temporary appointment for the management of Bandung Zoo.

On the other hand, we need to secure assets. No party should be there without rights. However, the Ministry of Law and Forestry also has rules regarding procedures for revocation of conservation institution permits. That needs to be synchronized," said Herman.

Previously, the Bandung City Government sent a letter to the Ministry of Transportation to apply for the revocation of the conservation agency permit for the Tamansari Wildlife Foundation.

According to Herman, this option is a follow-up to the agreement in a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation on April 10, 2025.

In the meeting, he said, it was agreed that if the process of using assets peacefully could not be carried out, the Bandung City Government could propose the revocation of the management permit.

"If it is deadlocked, the government must intervene. Because animal affairs are under the authority of the Ministry of Forestry. Meanwhile, we in the City Government only manage land assets," he said.

Herman emphasized that the City Government does not want regional losses due to the internal conflict of the foundation, especially if there is a business running, but there is no contribution to regional income in terms of land utilization.
