JAKARTA - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Thursday urged Israel to cancel its planned occupation of Gaza City, Palestine, warning it could create a catastrophic humanitarian catastrophe.

After his phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Foreign Ministernetphhul stated on social media that they discussed the latest developments to the rescue of hostages and ended the war in Gaza.

"At the same time, I have asked the Israeli government not to proceed with the planned invasion of Gaza City," Foreign Minister Wadephul said, quoted from Anadolu September 4.

"This will exacerbate the humanitarian situation. On the other hand, much greater humanitarian aid must reach the Gaza Strip immediately," he stressed.

Germany's top diplomat also expressed deep concern over statements from Israeli far-right ministers proposing annexation of the West Bank to prevent the creation of a Palestinian State.

"During our conversation, I also clearly warn against Israel's annexation plans in the West Bank. Germany continues to support two-state negotiated solutions as the basis for lasting peace," Foreign Minister Wadephul said.
