Learning activities in PAUD, SD, SMP, SMA, and College levels in South Sulawesi are held online for the next four days, September 1-4, 2025.

This step was taken in response to the turmoil of demonstrations that occurred in the last few days in Makassar City and a number of other areas in South Sulawesi.

Based on an appeal letter dated August 31, 2025 in Makassar, Sunday, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government appealed for online learning for Education Units from PAUD to SMA-MA equivalent.

This appeal is also intended for the Chancellor of State and Private Universities in South Sulawesi.

"Lecture leaders and heads of education units continue to monitor and monitor the implementation of lectures and learning online and maintain the situation and ensure that the campus or school situation remains safe and conducive," reads one of the points from the appeal of the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, quoted by ANTARA.

Following up on this appeal, the Makassar City Education Office (Disdik) instructed all education units at PAUD/TK, SD to SMP, both public and private, to carry out online learning on September 1, 2025.

This policy was taken as an anticipatory measure against the potential impact of demonstrations in the Makassar City area. In a circular letter numbered 400.3.5/8/S.Edar/Disdik/VIII/2025 signed by the Head of the Makassar City Education Office, Achi Soleman, dated August 31, 2025.

"All teachers and education personnel continue to carry out learning tasks optimally by utilizing various online platforms such as WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom, or other platforms," said the official statement at the circular in Makassar, Sunday.

The demonstrations that took place in the last few days in Makassar City resulted in the burning of the Makassar DPRD Office and the South Sulawesi DPRD Office by demonstrators who also claimed four lives.
