Prabowo Issues Firm Instruction to Revoke DPR Allowances and Take Action Against Anarchists

JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto revealed that the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) will revoke a number of policies, such as various large allowances and a moratorium on overseas work visits.

“The leaders of the DPR have stated that several DPR policies will be revoked, including the amount of allowances for DPR members and the moratorium on overseas work visits,” said the president after meeting with the leaders of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), DPR, Regional Representative Council (DPD), and political party leaders at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 August 2025.

The President also stated that the chairpersons of political parties had taken firm action against a number of DPR members whose statements had caused unrest. According to him, this was a form of pure public aspiration.

"I have received reports from the chairpersons of political parties that they have taken firm action against their respective members of the House of Representatives since Monday, 1 September 2025, namely against members of the House of Representatives who may have made incorrect statements," he added.

On the same occasion, the president also did not prohibit the public from staging demonstrations or expressing their opinions as long as they did so in accordance with the regulations and did not act anarchically. He emphasised that the security forces had been ordered to take action against any acts of anarchy committed by demonstrators.

"Expressing opinions is the right of all citizens, but it must be done in the right way. The government and the House of Representatives will take note of all public input and opinions. But if they damage and loot public facilities and private homes, then the state must intervene to ensure the safety of its citizens, and I have instructed the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Police to take firm and measured action against any anarchic acts," he explained.
