JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her condolences for the tragedy of the demonstration that took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, where an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol), Affan Kurniawan (21) was killed by a tactical vehicle (Rantis) Brimob.

"On behalf of all members and leaders of the DPR RI, we express our deep condolences for the death of the late Affan Kurniawan. May his deeds of worship be accepted by Allah, and the families left behind will be given strength and fortitude," said Puan via video message received by journalists, Friday, August 29.

According to Puan, Thursday night's incident will serve as a reminder that the state can only progress if there is healthy and open communication between the people and their representatives.

He also emphasized that the DPR will maintain its commitment to open communication spaces and build the nation with the people.

"It is our commitment to continue to open a healthy communication space in working together to build the nation and state. We must always be introspective, work hard, and pray that this kind of tragedy does not happen again," he concluded.
