Senayan Heating Up! Students Throw Stones, Hit DPR Gate With Hammer, And Officers Prepare Water Cannon

JAKARTA - A student demonstration in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, turned violent after heavy rain lashed the Senayan area.

Some of the protesters dispersed, but a number of students managed to occupy the DPR building fence, damage electricity poles, and throw stones into the parliamentary complex.

According to VOI monitoring at 3:18 PM WIB, hundreds of students from Pamulang University, Pancasila University, and Indraprasta University (Unindra) had previously left the location after taking turns expressing their aspirations with a student alliance from Banten.

However, some of the protesters surrounded the DPR building at two points: the front gate on Jalan Gatot Soebroto and the Pancasila Gate on Jalan Gelora.

As of the time of this report, a number of students were still attempting to damage the DPR gate with hammers.

A utility pole was also set on fire but was successfully extinguished. Officers stationed around the location were on standby to spray water cannons.
