Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, And Flood Threats In North Maluku, BPBD Asks Residents To Be Alert

TERNATE - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Maluku Province issued an appeal for hydrometeorological disaster vigilance to anticipate extreme weather which is expected to occur on August 25, 2025.

Head of BPBD North Maluku Fehby Alting said all district/city BPBDs were asked to increase cross-agency coordination to anticipate potential disasters.

"Regions are asked to prepare resources, continue to update information from the BMKG, and spread early warnings regarding rainfall, water level, and areas that have the potential to be affected," Fehby said when contacted in Ternate, Antara, Thursday, August 28.

BPBD also emphasized the importance of monitoring field conditions and ensuring the availability of signs and evacuation routes at disaster-prone points. In addition to regional agencies, this appeal is also aimed at the community.

Fehby reminded residents to recognize potential disasters in the surrounding environment, be aware of activities in coastal and hilly areas, and immediately evacuate in case of flood and landslide threats.

"People need to stay away from trees that are prone to falling, check the weather forecast before traveling, and always follow the official information of BMKG Sultan Babullah Ternate," he said.

In line with that, the North Maluku Regional Police appealed to residents to be aware of heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and lightning that hit Ternate City and its surroundings.

"This condition has the potential to cause disturbances in community activities," said Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Police, Kombes Pol. Bambang Suharyono.

Bambang reminded residents to reduce activities outside the home during bad weather, especially during heavy rain and strong winds. Drivers, especially motorcycle users, are asked to be careful on the road and find a safe place to take shelter if conditions are not possible.

In addition, parents are reminded to supervise their children not to play around the flow of water that has the potential for flooding. "Children's safety must be a major concern," said Bambang.

For people who are active at sea, ship owners and fishermen are asked to complete safety facilities such as life jackets, light fire extinguishers, and navigation equipment. The public is also advised to continue to update weather forecast information through the official BMKG channel.
