JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding emphasized the strengthening of cooperation in the field of human resource development (HR) with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

"Hopefully, through this meeting, productive cooperation can be established between JETRO and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Ministry to strengthen Indonesia-Japan brotherhood relations in various fields," said Karding during a meeting with JETRO in Japan, Monday, August 25, which was confiscated by Antara.

In a press release from the Ministry of P2MI in Jakarta, Tuesday, Karding explained that his party has two main tasks, namely protecting Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) throughout the country and placing skilled workers in various countries including Japan.

Karding realized that Japan is currently experiencing an aging population and on the contrary, Indonesia is experiencing a demographic bonus. "There are 153.3 million Indonesian productive workforces that we will be ready to encourage to be the part that we will place, we train and we place them abroad," he said.

Karding further said that in preparing skilled workers, the Indonesian Government formed the Migrant Center as an integrated vocational ecosystem which includes job information, language training, skill training, and professional certification.

Other programs, Migrant Class, are prepared to equip high school students with language lessons and cultural knowledge of the destination country. "We know that Japanese is very difficult to learn. Second, Japan pays close attention to culture and tradition," he said.

Meanwhile, JETRO Executive Director, Tomohiro Takasima views Indonesia as having great potential to become a global economic force in the future.

He assessed that Indonesia's target to enter the top 5 of the world economy by 2050 is in line with the demographic trend, where the Japanese population is expected to decline drastically to around 100 million people.

According to him, Indonesia's economic growth will be driven by the advantages of the population and the quality of human resources.

Therefore, JETRO sees the role of Kemen-P2MI in preparing skilled workers to be very strategic and will provide great benefits for Japanese companies.

"Under this new government, Indonesia has a target to enter the top 5 economically, which will be achieved by 2050. Until 2050, it is estimated that the Japanese population will decline sharply," he said.

Tomohiro argues that the source of Indonesia's economic growth comes from the quantity of the population and the quality of the workers.

"I think that Kemen-P2MI will continue to develop the right human resources and it will be very beneficial for Japanese companies," he said.

Through the meeting, the Indonesian government hopes that cooperation with JETRO can be a door to strengthen the synergy between the two countries, both in the placement of skilled workers and development of the superior human resources-based economic sector.

Delegation of the Ministry of P2MI made a working visit to Japan in the period 19 '26 August in order to optimize placement governance and strengthen the management of the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers in Japan.
