JAKARTA - The DPR RI, the Government, and LMKN, as well as a number of parties from the music industry have agreed to concentrate on completing the revision of the Law on Copyright within the next two months.

Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hopes that the revision of the Copyright Law can resolve the polemic of song royalties which has recently become a public discussion.

"The completion of the new Copyright Law is very important to provide legal certainty and better rights protection for music industry players. We hope that the discussion process can be completed soon," said Puan to reporters, Tuesday, August 26.

As is known, the Indonesian House of Representatives through Commission X previously held a meeting with the government and the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) to discuss short and long-term solutions to the polemic of song royalties. One of the recommendations that emerged was the need for a thorough audit of royalty governance.

Then, the leadership of the DPR held a consultation meeting to resolve the polemic of song royalties on Thursday, August 21, which was attended by Commission XIII of the DPR, the Ministry of Law, the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN), collective management institutions (LMK), as well as representatives from the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION) and the All-Indonesian Composite Association (ACTION).

Through the meeting, the government, DPR, and LMKN agreed to end the polemic of song royalties by formulating a revised manuscript of the Law on Copyright and conducting audits to ensure transparency in royalty withdrawals.

Related to this, Puan emphasized the DPR's commitment to continue to oversee the discussion of derivative regulations so that they are in line with the spirit of national creative industry protection and development.

"The rules that are drawn up later must provide legal certainty without burdening the wider community, including cafe owners, event organizers, and other music users, so that all parties can feel protected and not harmed," said Puan.
