JAKARTA - A car vandalism carried out by protesters has gone viral on social media. Police have confirmed that the car, with license plate number ZZH, does not belong to a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Previously, a video circulated showing protesters vandalizing a car allegedly belonging to a DPR member. The protesters hit and smashed the car's windows with bamboo sticks.

"The victim, identified as BB, works as a civil servant," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, to VOI on Tuesday, August 26.

The vandalism was reported by the victim through his attorney, identified as T, to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Monday, August 25.

According to the report, the vandalism began when the victim left the DPR RI building to head to his office at a ministry.

Then, on the way, in front of Senayan Park, making a U-turn under the flyover, the victim's vehicle was blocked by protesters. The vandalism immediately began.

"They collectively vandalized the victim's car by hitting it with wood and throwing rocks, resulting in damage to the windshield and body," Ade said.

The investigation is currently underway. Police are still gathering evidence to arrest and identify the suspect.

"The suspect is under investigation," Ade said.
