2 Couriers Arrested In Pekanbaru, Police Hunt For Large Network Behind 44 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine

The Riau Regional Police (Polda) Narcotics and Drug Investigation Directorate (Polda) searched the international narcotics network after arresting two couriers with the initials WS (32) and AH (29) with 44 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine as evidence.

Direktur Ditresnarkoba Polda Riau Kombes Putu Yudha Prawira mengatakan, hingga kini polisi belum mengetahui mana narkoba akan dikirim maupun pengendalinya.

These two suspects only act as couriers. We are currently developing the case to reveal where this item was sent and the large network behind it," said Putu in Pekanbaru, Antara, Monday, August 25.

The arrests began with mapping and monitoring for a week. The police team identified the perpetrator's vehicle which was suspected of carrying narcotics. The car was speeding up trying to escape, but was successfully stopped at the intersection of Jalan Kelapa Sawit Street, Jalan Harapan Raya, Bukit Raya District, Pekanbaru.

When searched, the police found two black bags containing 44 packs of methamphetamine with a gross weight of about 44 kilograms which were placed in the back seat of the car. The evidence and the two perpetrators were immediately taken to the Riau Police Headquarters for inspection.

According to the suspect's statement, each was promised a fee of Rp. 10 million after successfully delivering the illicit goods. "We have secured the evidence and some of it will be sent to the Forensic Laboratory for examination," said Putu.

For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The threat of punishment ranges from life imprisonment to the death penalty.
