CIREBON - A man named Sukarso (53), a resident of Lemahwungkuk Subdistrict, Cirebon City, West Java, died after being plunged into the sea and caught between the ship and the dock at Muara Jati Village, Thursday night, August 21.

The head of the Cirebon City Police and Air (Satpolairud) Unit, AKP Acep, said that his party immediately intervened upon receiving reports from residents.

"We received a report at around 21.45 WIB and immediately took action at the location," said Acep when confirmed in Cirebon, Antara, Friday, August 22.

According to witness testimony, the unfortunate incident began when the victim and his partner were about to meet the crew of the Cemerlang Kindergarten who were leaning on the dock. To get to the ship, they had to pass through the Mega Lestari Kindergarten ship which docked on the outside of the dock.

When jumping from TK Mega Lestari, the victim slipped and fell into the sea, right on the sidelines between the ship and the dock. At the same time, the Mega Lestari kindergarten ship was moving closer to the dock.

"The victim's body was caught between the ship and the dock," said Acep.

Seeing the incident, the crew immediately tried to help the victim and evacuated him from the sea. Even though he had received help and was taken to the hospital, the victim's life could not be saved.

After the incident, the police conducted a crime scene (TKP) and asked for information from a number of witnesses. The Cirebon City Police have also coordinated with the port manager and Ditpolairud of the West Java Police for further handling.

"The situation at the location is conducive, and we have contacted the victim's family," said Acep.

He also appealed to the public and port workers to prioritize safety in their activities in the dock area.

“Keselamatan harus jadi prioritas. Jangan ambil risiko yang bisa membahayakan diri sendiri,” tegasnya.

"Security must be a priority. Don't take risks that can endanger yourself," he said.
