JAKARTA - The sole candidate for Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK), Inosentius Samsul, emphasized his commitment not to produce decisions that trigger controversy if he is elected to replace Constitutional Court Judge Arief Hidayat who will retire immediately.
This statement was made by Inosentius during a fit and proper test at Commission III of the DPR RI, Wednesday, August 20 at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta.
"The decisions of the Constitutional Court in the future must be of high quality, easy to understand, can be implemented, and are really a solution," said Inosentius.
He emphasized that the Constitutional Court should be an institution that is trusted by the public in resolving legal issues and seeking justice. According to him, the independent power of the Constitutional Court must still be carried out in an accountable manner and free from intervening in any group or group.
"The MK is independent, but it does not mean that it is free from evaluation. There must still be responsibility, and it must not feel always right, while the DPR is considered to be always wrong in making laws," he said.
He assessed that such a mindset needs to be changed so that the relationship between the Constitutional Court and the institution that forms the law is more proportional.
Inocentius also stated that if elected, he would encourage the Constitutional Court to produce decisions that could be accounted for constitutionally, rationally, and benefit the wider community.
"The Constitutional Court's decision must not only be in accordance with the law, but also fairly and can be felt by the benefits of the community," he added.
