JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) carried out a weather modification operation (OMC). This operation is a strategic step for preparedness to deal with potential hydrometeorological disasters.

This operation aims primarily for mitigating extreme hydrometeorological disasters and supporting the smooth and security of the entire series of events to commemorate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Head of DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, stated that OMC is a form of proactive mitigation and anticipation from local governments.

"Based on weather predictions from the BMKG, there is the potential for an increase in rainfall in mid-August, therefore OMC will be carried out for 5 days, from 17 to 21 August 2025," said Isnawa Adji, Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Director of Weather Modification Operations, Budi Harsoyo, said the strategy carried out on the first day was to modify the weather with early interventions against potential rain clouds moving towards Jakarta.

"Our strategy today is very focused. Based on weather radar monitoring this morning, our team will intervene early on potential rain clouds moving towards Jakarta," he said.

"Our main priority is to ensure that the celebration center area, particularly around the Merdeka Palace and Monas, remains conducive and free from heavy rains during the ceremony," he added.

This activity is the result of a synergistic collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Indonesian Air Force National Army (TNI AU).

Through this activity, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that this cross-sectoral collaboration can effectively mitigate the risk of extreme weather and ensure that all state agendas and community celebrations in the context of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day can take place.
