Minister Of Public Works: Jragung Dam Strengthens Irrigation Network In Central Java

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo revealed the construction of the Jragung Dam in Semarang Regency, Central Java in order to strengthen irrigation networks.

The Jragung Dam will be the main support for the new irrigation area which is currently being prepared. With the target of completing the impacting process in July 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture is targeted to be able to immediately print rice fields in early 2026.

"We call this dam premium irrigation, so if there is a dam, there is irrigation, we can expect three planting times," said Dody in his statement in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, August 11.

The Ministry of Public Works continues to accelerate the completion of the construction of the Jragung Dam in Semarang Regency, Central Java. As of August 10, 2025, the construction progress has reached 87.8 percent and is targeted for completion in September 2026.

The construction of the Jragung Dam began in October 2020 by the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS). The dam with a capacity of 90 million m3 has an inundation area of 451 hectares.

The main benefit of the dam is to supply water for the Jragung Irrigation Area covering an area of 4,528 hectares in Demak and Grobogan Regencies.

In addition to the irrigation function, this dam also supplies raw water of 1,000 liters/per second, with distribution to Semarang City 400 liters/second, Grobogan Regency 250 liters/second, and Demak Regency 350 liters/second.

Jragung is also designed as a flood control infrastructure covering an area of 3,858 hectares, and has the potential to be developed into a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) of 90 MW and a Micro-hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) of 1.4 MW.

The dam, which is located in Candirejo Village, Pringapus District, Semarang Regency, is expected to increase agricultural productivity through the Padi-Padi-Palawija planting pattern.
