Special Committee For The Raperda Of KTR Ensures The Rights Of Cigarette Traders Are Accommodated

JAKARTA - The Special Committee (Pansus) for the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) for Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) ensures that the regulation is not only aimed at protecting public health, but also accommodating the rights of traders.

"We want to protect people's rights to live a healthy life without pollution, one of which is from cigarettes. But still, we still accommodate the right to sell," said Deputy Chairman of the Special Committee for the Raperda KTRAbdurahman Suhaimi as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 9.

He explained that the discussion of the Raperda KTR is still in the stage of reviewing articles per article with open dialogue spaces, including the possibility of presenting tobacco business actors for public audiences.

However, the Special Committee for the Raperda KTR decided to temporarily suspend (scors) the discussion of the regulation because there was a difference between the draft that was being discussed and the document on the previous proposal from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

According to him, the suspension was carried out to ensure the order of procedures in every draft amendment.

"We checked properly that the draft we discussed was draft one, and there was a history change," said Suhaimi.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Special Committee for the RaperdaKTR, Farah Savira, highlighted the important differences in Article 6 which is considered very vital because it relates to the determination of areas that are completely free from smoking.

"Article 6 is very important for the affirmation of the area without smoking. So we decided to hold it first," saidFarah.

The continued meeting of the Special Committee for the Raperda KTR is scheduled to be held again next week. All members of the special committee agreed to speed up the completion of the Raperda so that it can be ratified no later than the end of September 2025.
