PEKANBARU - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized the need for a more attractive exhibition layout at the Sang Nila Utama Museum in Pekanbaru to attract the younger generation and keep up with current trends.
"This museum has an extraordinary wealth of collections. It includes ethnography, artifacts from fishing life, relics of Malay kingdoms, and even information on mineral resources in Riau. All of this must be presented in an up-to-date, relevant exhibition layout that utilizes technology," said Fadli while inspecting the museum on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman on Friday (August 8th).
He believes that museums cannot rely solely on collections; they must also be able to present them interactively. "Museums must adapt to advances in technology and information. The appearance and layout of the exhibitions are crucial for visitor interest," he emphasized.
Founded in 1991, the Sang Nila Utama Museum serves as a center for preserving Riau's Malay cultural heritage. In addition to its exhibition space, the museum also serves as an educational resource for students, researchers, and the public, regularly holding temporary exhibitions and cultural literacy activities.
During the visit, Fadli was accompanied by Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, Director General of Cultural and Tradition Protection Restu Gunawan, Secretary of the Directorate General Wawan Yogaswara, and Special Staff to the Minister Rachmanda Primayuda.
Fadli confirmed that he would schedule a meeting with the Riau Governor to discuss museum development. "The goal is clear: to make this museum more vibrant, modern, and rooted in Riau's cultural heritage," he concluded.
