JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will meet in the coming days.
The announcement comes a day after Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, held talks with Putin to find a breakthrough to end Ukraine's war.
Trump previously threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia and countries that buy their exports if there is no agreement.
"On the American side's proposal, an agreement has basically been reached to hold the highest-level bilateral meeting in the coming days, namely a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump," Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said.
"We are currently starting concrete preparations with our American counterparts," he continued, quoted by the Interfax news agency.
He said the location of the summit had been agreed upon, but would be announced later.
Putin is scheduled to meet with the president of the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, which was previously suggested by several sources as a possible location.
The Russian stock market rose more than 5% after the news, with its main MOEX index hitting its highest level in two months. Ruble hit the highest level in two weeks against China's US dollar and yuan.
