Bengkulu Teenager Kills Mother During Prayer, Legal Process Waits For RSKJ Results

BENGKULU Bengkulu City Police (Polresta) stated that the legal process against NR (18), a suspect in the murder of his biological mother, YT (49), is still waiting for the results of observations from the Soeprapto Bengkulu Mental Special Hospital (RSKJ).

NR diketahui telah ditetapkan sebagai tersangka atas kematian ibunya yang dibunuhkan saat sedang melakukan salat Dzuhur pada Sabtu, 2 Agustus 2025.

However, because NR is said to have a mental disorder, investigators are taking further observation steps to ensure his current mental condition.

Bengkulu Police Chief Kombes Sudarno said the legal process was still going as it should have been even though the suspect was known to have a history of mental disorders.

"Because the suspect has committed a criminal act, we are still carrying out the process according to legal procedures. Even though he was previously declared sick, we are currently conducting another examination at the RSKJ to determine whether he is still sick or not," said Sudarno in Bengkulu, Antara, Thursday, August 7.

If the results of the observations carried out by RSKJ Soeprapto for 14 days or more show that the suspect NR is still suffering from a mental disorder, then the legal process can be stopped according to the provisions.

"If it is still sick, there are further legal provisions whether it is continued or not. Until now the process is still ongoing, but we are waiting for the results of the observations," said Sudarno.

RSKJ Soeprapto Bengkulu confirmed that NR has been a patient undergoing treatment since 2023. He is also listed as a recipient of the BPJS Health program for free, so that all medical expenses during treatment at hospitals are borne by the state.

"It is true that the patient has been treated here and has been in and out several times," said RSKJ Soeprapto psychiatrist Nurma Yusma Dewi, who handled NR.

NR was last sent home from the hospital on July 29, 2025. At that time, his condition was declared stable, calm, and could undergo daily activities independently. He was also provided with medicine for outpatient treatment for two weeks.

After the tragic incident on August 2, 2025, NR was immediately named a suspect by the Bengkulu Police Criminal Investigation (Reskrim) investigators.

"We have determined him as a suspect. However, the process remains in coordination with the RSKJ, especially since he also has a yellow card," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bengkulu Police, Kompol Sujud Alif Yulam Lam.
