LOMBOK - The Department of Education and Culture (Disdikbud) of Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), appealed to all schools in their area not to put up flags with pictures of anime figures, such as the One Piece pirate flag, especially in order to welcome the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Until now there have been no reports of schools putting up the One Piece flag," said Head of Central Lombok Education and Culture, Idham Halid in Praya, Antara, Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

He emphasized that the school was asked to install the Red and White Flag, umbul, and other ornaments that reflected the spirit of nationalism.

"We have appealed to all schools to install the Red and White Flag. It is a symbol of the nation's identity and respect for the struggle of the heroes," he said.

According to Idham, putting up non-national symbols in the context of the commemoration of independence is irrelevant and can cause misunderstanding among students.

"Strengthening the national flag is a form of love for the country. Don't let anyone insert other symbols that are not in accordance with the context of the commemoration of independence," he said.

In addition, he emphasized that the activities of celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, such as road and competition, would still be carried out as in previous years.

Previously, the Central Lombok Regency Government held an activity to raise thousands of Red and White Flags in the courtyard of the Regent's Office as an opening series of commemorations of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

"This activity is to raise the spirit and love of the country," said the Regent of Central Lombok, Lalu Pathul Bahri, after morning gymnastics with ASN and raising flags, Wednesday.

He said this movement also aims to foster the spirit of mutual cooperation and strengthen national identity, not only as a ceremonial routine.

In addition, in August 2025, the local government will hold a movement to distribute the Red and White Flag to the public.

"We invite all residents to participate and publish the moment through their respective social media," said Pathul.

He hopes that all elements of society, from community organizations, political parties, to the private sector, will also support this movement as a form of participation in commemorating independence day.

"Let's keep the spirit of nationalism and mutual cooperation as the identity of the nation," he said.
