Police Commissioner Satria Nanda Sentenced To Death In Case Of Conjured Drug Evidence

The panel of judges at the Riau Islands High Court (PT Kepri) sentenced the former Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Barelang Police, Kompol Satria Nanda, to the case of processing evidence of methamphetamine.

This comparison decision was read out during the trial at the Riau Islands High Court, Tanjungpinang, led by the Chairman of the Ahmad Shalihin Assembly, with Bagus Irawan and Priyanto Lumban Radja as member judges.

"Untuk terdakwa Satria Nanda selaku mantan Kasatresnarkoba, majelis hakim aksi memutuskan mengubah putusan Pengadilan Negeri Batam dari pidana seumur hidup menjadi pidana mati," kata anggota majelis hakim adara PT Kepri Priyanto Lumban Radja, di Batam, Selasa, 5 Agustus dilansir ANTARA.

The appeal decision against Kompol Satria Nanda canceled the Batam District Court's decision which sentenced the public prosecutor to life imprisonment, or lighter than the demands of the public prosecutor, namely the death penalty.

In addition, the appeal decision against Satria Nanda is similar to the sentence of Sygit Sarwo Edhi, the former Head of the Narcotics Unit of the Barelang Police, who was also sentenced by an appeal judge to the death penalty.

Priyanto explained the considerations of the panel of judges to change Satria Nanda's criminal decision, as well as Shigit Sarwo Edhi as the head of the unit (Kasat).

According to him, Satria Nanda as Kasatresnarkoba at that time should have been able to prevent the crime from happening, but it was not carried out.

"Because they (Satria Nanda and Shigit) as Kasat and Kanit have policies. If you have a policy, you can thicken the action (criminal acts). But he didn't cancel it," said Priyanto, who is also a spokesman for the Riau Islands High Court.

On Wednesday (4/6), the Batam District Court ruled that Satria Nanda was sentenced to life imprisonment. On this decision, the prosecutor and the defendant's legal adviser filed an appeal to the Riau Islands High Court.

In addition, on the same day, the panel of judges also read out the appeal decision for the other former members of the Narcotics Unit of the Barelang Police, namely Junaidi Gunawan, Aryanto, Jaka Surya, Wan Rahmat Kurniawan, and Alex Candra.

Against these five defendants, the appeal judge decided to strengthen the decision of the Batam District Court which sentenced them to life.

Meanwhile, the other two defendants, namely Azis Martua Siregar and Zulkifli Simanjuntak (as couriers) were decided differently.

"For Zulkifli, the appeal decision still strengthens the Batam District Court's decision, which is 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, Aziz Martua Siregar from 13 years old was changed to 20 years in prison," he said.

The judge's consideration changed Azis' decision to 20 years, because at the time of the crime, the former Brimob member of the Riau Islands Police was serving a sentence related to a drug case.

"So Azis is a recidivist, when the case occurred he was serving a drug sentence too," said Priyanto.
