North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country would win in an "anti-imperalis and anti-US" battle, coinciding with warnings of a Korean war ceasefire, state media reported on Sunday.

Kim's leader "insisted that our country and its people will surely achieve a noble goal of building a country rich in a strong military and becoming an honorable winner in anti-imperalis and anti-US battles," state news agency KCNA reported, referring to his visit to the war museum the day before.

Leader Kim also visited the memorial to honor veterans of the 1950-53 Korean War including the Friendship Tower in memory of the Chinese People's Liberation Army soldiers who fought alongside North Korea, and met soldiers in artillery regiments to celebrate the day, state media KCNA said.

North Korea signed a ceasefire agreement with the United States and China on July 27, 1953, which ended the three-year war battle.

US generals signed the agreement representing the United Nations forces that have supported South Korea.

North Korea called July 27 a "Day of Victory" although the ceasefire resulted in borders dividing the Korean Peninsula evenly, after both sides had made great progress during the war.

On the other hand, South Korea did not commemorate the day with any major events.

However, in a speech read on Sunday at a memorial service to honor veterans of the Korean War in Washington, DC, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung promised to further strengthen his country's alliance with the United States and protect freedom and peace.

"Through efforts in various fields including politics, economy, security and culture, we will further strengthen the noble South Korea-US alliance forged with blood and make more efforts to firmly protect freedom and peace on the Korean Peninsula," said President Lee.

North Korea is now fighting alongside Russia in the war in Ukraine. Thousands of North Korean troops were deployed to the Russian Kursk region, while Pyongyang has also supplied ammunition to Russia.

Meanwhile, South Korea said it might deploy more troops in July or August.
