Hasto Kristiyanto's 3.5-Year Sentence Is Considered To Disband Criminalization Allegations

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo said the verdict of the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto annulled accusations of criminalization. The bribery of former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan was proven in court.

"This result at least proves that there is no criminalization or intervention or even order," Yudi told reporters in a written statement, Friday, July 25.

The judge is also considered to have acted objectively and independently. This assessment was conveyed by Yudi because the judge accepted the defense submitted by the Hasto and Amicusftiae camps which was also read out in court.

"That the judges are objective and consider all the facts of the trial in accordance with their independence in deciding the case," he said.

Yudi did not mind that the judge deciding the article on the obstruction against Hasto was not proven. However, the KPK is expected to appeal the decision.

"Because not all the charges and demands of the prosecutor were accommodated by the judge," said Yudi.

Hasto was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months or 3.5 years in prison by the Panel of Judges at the Corruption Court. He was found guilty of bribing former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan regarding PAW, a member of the 2019-2024 DPR.

The aggravating thing is that Hasto as a defendant does not support the eradication of corruption and independence of the KPU institution.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor is that Hasto was polite in the trial, had never been convicted, and had family responsibilities.

Meanwhile, for the obstruction of the investigation into the bribery case of Harun Masiku, the panel of judges stated that the indictment was not proven.

This decision is lighter than the prosecutor's demands, namely imprisonment of 7 years and a fine of Rp600 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison.
