BEKASI - Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang demanded that the developer of The Arthera Hill Extension Housing in Jayasampurna Village, Serang Baru District, be responsible for the flood disaster that continues to hit the area.

"The handling of floods in The Arthera Hill Extension Housing is still the responsibility of the developer," said Ade in Cikarang, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 24.

According to him, the flooding that has occurred up to six times in the past year was caused by an error in development planning.

He considered that the absence of water infiltration areas was the main trigger for the overflowing of the river flow that crossed the area.

"There is no water absorption. We as a government must focus more on developers. How this developer is responsible for the mistakes of building houses that have been marketed to the public. Because housing is not free, they buy, and developers are businesses," he said.

Ade also said that the land where the housing was built was actually not for housing, but for infiltration areas. Therefore, he assessed that developers must build flood control infrastructure as compensation.

Even if we help, this will not be completed. The flood covers all houses. If there is only one meter of flooding, maybe it can be handled. But these are all affected buildings, the damage is fatal," he said.

The Bekasi Regency Government also highlighted the lack of reports from related agencies regarding flood conditions in that location. He said his party would seek a meeting with developers to find a way out.

"In the future we will focus more on developers. We will hold hearings so that they are responsible for the impacts caused. Because this concerns the comfort and security of the people who live there," said Ade.

The Arthera Hill Extension Housing has been in the public spotlight after being hit by floods six times since it was built in mid-2024. The height of the flood even reached three meters and forced most residents to flee because their houses could no longer be lived in.

One of the residents, Adam, said that the impact of the flood was not only materially detrimental, but also left deep psychological wounds.

"If the material is still possible, there may be more. But if it's a mental problem, the child is tough. It doesn't cost it," he said.

Until now, residents are still waiting for concrete action from the developer. They demand the relocation of units, repurchase of houses by developers, or permanent handling through the installation of concrete sheet piles on the banks of the Cikarang River as a long-term solution.
