JAKARTA - The latest round of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is planned to be held on Wednesday in Turkey, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, citing senior Kyiv officials on Monday.
Speaking in a late-night video address, President Zelensky said he had spoken to Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, on Monday in preparation for prisoner swaps and other meetings with Russia in Turkey.
"Umerov reports that the meeting is planned for Wednesday. Further details will follow tomorrow," President Zelensky said.
"The agenda from our side is clear: repatriation of prisoners of war, repatriation of children kidnapped by Russia, and preparation for meeting leaders," President Zelenzky said.
Umerov, who previously served as defense minister, was appointed to his current post last week and led the first two rounds of negotiations with Russia.
Meanwhile, the Russian government news agency TASS quoted a source in Turkey as saying negotiations would take place on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, RIA news agency, which also quoted a source, said negotiations would last for two days, Thursday and Friday.
Earlier, the Kremlin said it was waiting for confirmation of the date of the negotiations but said the two sides were "very opposite" in their position on how to end the war.
