JAKARTA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has the legitimate right to utilize nuclear power for peaceful purposes, and stripping of these rights is completely unacceptable.

In a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Saturday (19/7), Pezeshkian stated that Iran has always been committed to complying with international law and believes that its national nuclear activity is transparent.

Highlighting a 12-day war against the United States and Israel as well as pressure from European countries to resume negotiations, Iranian President stressed that Iran never wanted war.

"Iran wants to play a role in advancing regional peace and stability," he said.

"We were attacked by the Zionist regime in violations of all international standards and laws. Then, when negotiations proceeded, the United States bombed Iran's nuclear facilities which were fully subject to international inspections," Pezeshkian said.

He also condemned the silence of the governments of countries in the world and global institutions - especially the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - when facing aggressive and criminal attacks on Iran.

"At least, our country expects the IAEA to express criticism in accordance with its regulations and legal responsibilities," he added.

In the same phone call, Pezeshkian highlighted the historic and friendly relationship between Iran and Armenia. He also said that Iran wanted to continue constructive relations with all neighboring countries, including Armenia.
