PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo) has clarified the involvement of two former high-ranking officials, Nadiem Makarim and Andre Soelistyo, in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebooks at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) which is currently being handled by the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

GoTo Public Affairs & Communications Director Ade Mulya confirmed that Nadiem Makarim had resigned from all positions in the Company since October 2019, before the alleged procurement took place.

"Since October 2019, the person concerned has resigned from his position as President Commissioner and is no longer involved in the company's operations or management," said Ade, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 15.

Ade also said that during his tenure as Minister of Education, Nadiem had no relationship or involvement with the company.

In addition, GoTo said Andre Soelistyo had also ended all of his roles in the company.

Andre Soelistyo has resigned from his position as Commissioner and was approved by the GoTo General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) as of June 11, 2024.

Prior to serving as Commissioner, the person concerned on June 30, 2023 had also officially resigned from his position as President Director of GoTo.

However, Ade said that GoTo remains committed to respecting the applicable legal process.

"We always uphold the principle of presumption of innocence and respect the applicable legal process. As a public company, we always prioritize the principles of good corporate governance, accountability, and transparency in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," said Ade.

So far, the AGO has examined a number of parties who are considered to have links to the investigation process of the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebooks for the 2019-2022 fiscal year.

The names examined included Nadiem Makarim, Andre Soelistyo, and Melissa Siska Juminto from PT Gojek Indonesia. The GoTo office was also searched by investigators on July 8, 2024.

Head of the Attorney General's Office for Legal Information, Harli Siregar, stated that investigators were investigating the alleged investment of Google into Gojek and whether it had an influence on the procurement decision by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"That's what you want to explore, that's why there is an investment connection. Does it affect whether the investment is true," said Harli.

The results of the deepening, he said, will be further investigated and linked to the procurement of Chromebook laptops at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"If that's true, does it affect the procurement of Chromebooks because of this procurement by the government. Therefore, those parties were summoned some time ago until now," he said.

The AGO itself said that the procurement of Chromebooks had spent a budget of Rp9.98 trillion, which came from the Education Unit Fund (DSP) and the Special Allocation Fund (DAK).

Investigators suspect there has been engineering in technical studies to encourage the use of laptops with the Chrome operating system, although previous trials showed less effective results.
