KPK Protests RKUHAP Set Only Suspects Can Be Prevented From Leaving The Country: Witnesses And Other Parties Need!

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) assesses that foreign prevention also needs to be carried out on witnesses and related parties in a corruption case.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo in response to the revision of the Criminal Procedure Law (RKUHAP) which regulates the prohibition of traveling outside only for suspects. In fact, investigators have so far applied for prevention of witnesses and other parties as regulated in the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019.

"In the RKUHAP, what can be done is that there are only suspects, but the KPK is of course of course not only needed for suspects, but also for witnesses or other related parties," Budi told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, May 15.

Budi said the existence of related parties in the country was important in the investigation process. "So that when the investigation process is carried out it can be carried out more effectively," he said.

"For example, a summons for an examination can be carried out immediately so that the process can also be faster, more effective and of course it is good for all," he continued.

The KPK is currently continuing to conduct studies on the draft RKUHAP. As a result, Budi said, it would be submitted as consideration for the government and the DPR.

"KPK will later provide input from the results of the studies that have been carried out, including the enrichment of legal experts who have been invited by the KPK," he said.

As previously reported, Commission III of the DPR and the government have completed the discussion of the problem inventory list (DIM) for the Revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP). Activities are carried out for two days from 9-10 July.

The discussion was carried out by Commission III of the DPR and the government represented by Deputy Minister of Law (Wamenkum) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy. There were 1,676 DIM RKUHAP with details of DIM remaining 1,091, DIM editorial as many as 295, 68 DIM amended, 91 DIM removed, 131 DIM new substance.
