Papua's Re-voting Held In Early August 2025, Governor Urges KPU To Boost Participation

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of Papua Agus Fatoni asked the local General Elections Commission (KPU) to continue conducting education and socialization in order to increase voter participation ahead of the re-voting (PSU) which was held on August 6, 2025.

"I hope that the KPU will intensively conduct massive socialization to the community regarding the implementation of PSU in order to increase public interest in coming to polling stations," he said in Jayapura, Friday, July 11, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Agus, this is important so that the public must know when and where the PSU will be implemented. Therefore, socialization must be intensified through social media, mass media, and videotrons belonging to the provincial government.

"I also encourage the Declaration of the Peace Pilkada to be carried out immediately by involving all candidate pairs, Forkopimda, KPU, and Bawaslu," he said.

He explained that besides that, his party also asked that the debate between the candidate pairs for governor and deputy governor would be broadcasted through the live streaming social media platform.

"Where this is one of the anticipations of crowds and this step is taken so that the whole community can witness the debate between the pairs of candidates for governor and deputy governor anywhere, including from home," he said.

He added that his party really pays serious attention to the validity of the data and the technical stages of implementing the PSU.

"I ask all parties to ensure that every step is taken carefully and carefully, in order to avoid technical errors that can interfere with the running of the PSU," he said again.

He explained that the Papua Provincial Government is ready to fully support the PSU process, both in terms of technical and resource.
