KPK Sentil Pemda, If Salary Is Not Enough, Don't Be An Official

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johanis Tanak asked officials who complained that their salaries should stop working. He said, there are still many who want to sit in their positions and be able to work optimally.

This was conveyed by Johanis during a speech at the KPK Coordination Meeting-Regional Government in the Ancol Area, North Jakarta today, July 10. He initially asked about the salaries of local government officials because many of them were suspects in corruption cases.

"How many members of my DPRD (KPK, ed) were arrested, and I was detained. That's because of what? All (bribery, ed) requests. Is it not enough with the salary that has been given," asked Johanis

"It's not enough," answered several regional officials who attended the activity.

"Not enough, yes," asked Johanis again.

"If you don't feel enough, just stop being an employee. You don't have to be an employee. There are still others who like it," he said again in a high tone.

Johanis is surprised that local government officials can still feel the salary is lacking. Because, they get a number of facilities such as cars, houses, and official allowances.

"If you say it's not enough, you've been given a car, you've been given a house, you've been given a budget and others. There are still many of our common people, don't just look up, but look down," he said.

Johanis reminded local government officials to build instead of enriching themselves. So, if they are unable to work because of their small salary, they should resign.

"Why do you force yourself to sit there with a low salary? If you don't want to resign, then many others will like it, sir," he said.

Furthermore, Johanis highlighted the results of a KPK survey related to the dawn attack that occurred in the regions. He said, this impregnancy practice is still widely used to occupy certain positions.

"That's why don't use the dawn attack to occupy that position. Use faith, integrity related to faith," said Tanak.

This activity was attended by a number of governors such as the Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung; West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to Banten Governor Andra Soni. Then also present were the ranks of the Provincial and Regency and City DPRD.
