JAKARTA - In an effort to ensure that the rewriting of history runs accurately and responsibly, the Indonesian House of Representatives will form a special team to supervise the process, which is currently being carried out by the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud).

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, revealed that the decision to form a supervision team was taken after going through internal consultations, including with the Chairman of the DPR and other leaders.

"After discussing with the Speaker of the DPR and other DPR leaders, we agreed to form and assign a supervision team to carry out the DPR's supervisory function for the rewriting of history carried out by the Ministry of Culture," Dasco said in a written statement delivered on Sunday in Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA.

The supervision team will consist of elements of Commission III in charge of law, as well as Commission X which focuses on education and culture. Dasco emphasized that this team will work professionally and objectively in supervising the process of rewriting the history.

"Commission III and Commission X will be directly involved to ensure that the process carried out by the Ministry of Culture takes place with full integrity and does not leave problems in the future," he explained.

Furthermore, Dasco emphasized that this supervision aims to prevent polemics in the community. According to him, various issues that have the potential to cause controversy will become a special concern of the DPR team.

"All forms of controversy will be the focus of our supervision, so that the results of this rewriting of history truly reflect the spirit of nationality and the values of historical truth," he concluded.
