JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to implement a special room for smoking in entertainment areas, in line with the provisions stipulated in the Draft Regional Regulation of Non-Smoking Areas (Ranperda KTR).

"What must be regulated is that all entertainment venues, karaoke, clubs, or anything else should not be in public places where people smoke. However, everyone (entertainment venues) must prepare a place for people to smoke," said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 5.

The special space aims to separate smokers from those who do not smoke. Thus, there are closed places that do not disturb each other.

With this scheme, said Pramono, visitors to entertainment venues can still smoke, but only in special rooms that have been provided.

"For example, if you karaoke, you can't smoke anymore in a karaoke room. But if you want to smoke, go out of the room to a special place for smoking. That's what is regulated," said Pramono.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government emphasized that the ratification of the Ranperda KTR must be carried out carefully so as not to have a negative impact on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

This affirmation was conveyed by Pramono following the signing of the regulation on smoking.

"I have met with the leadership of the Ranperda of cigarettes and also the leadership of all agencies in the DPRD who prepared the Regional Regulation. I say, I don't want these MSMEs to be disturbed because of the Perda," Pramono explained.

Previously, the Special Committee (Pansus) on Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD stated that the prohibition of smoking at nightclubs was included in the standard rules in the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) of the KTR.

"The prohibition of smoking at nightclubs must be explained specifically," said Special Committee Member regarding the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD KTR Ali Lubis in Jakarta, Monday (23/6).

According to him, the discussion of the Raperda KTR must be discussed specifically regarding the standard rules for the prohibition of smoking in nightclubs and needs to be included in Chapter I concerning General Provisions.

Ali said the ban on smoking in nightclubs must be written in detail, for example at nightclubs, discotheques, bars, karaoke and playgrounds that provide nightlife for the public.
