JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI Willy Aditya supports the Indonesian government to cooperate with any party to resolve the case of a climber from Brazil, Juliana Marins, who fell on Mount Rinjani.

This was said by Willy in response to reports that the Brazilian government plans to take international legal action regarding the death of Juliana Marins.

"Of course we in the DPR will be very supportive of the executive to provide an explanation and close cooperation with Brazil in order to get clarity on the events that occurred," Willy told reporters, Friday, July 4.

The head of the commission in charge of human rights emphasized that the Indonesian government will definitely do the same thing to ensure the safety of its citizens, as will Brazil and the Marins family.

According to him, the government can cooperate with related institutions to provide a clear explanation of the events that occurred to the Brazilian government and Juliana's family.

"Nothing needs to be covered up from the accident that occurred. Explain according to the events and existing regulations," said Willy.

Willy said that both Indonesia and Brazil have legal rules that must be respected. "I think Brazil will also be in the same position to respect the existing rules in Indonesia," he said.

The NasDem legislator from the East Java electoral district also hopes that the events that occur can be a positive factor that can increase various cooperation between countries.

"We remember, in the past the Bali bombing incident resulted in useful cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in preventing terrorism. We certainly hope that the Juliana Marins incident will also produce the same thing," concluded Willy.

As is known, Brazil plans to take legal action if the results of the autopsy of the two late Juliana Marins show that there was negligence that caused the 26-year-old woman to die. Marins died after being trapped for 4 days on Mount Rinjani on June 21.

Human Rights advocate from Brazil's Public Defenders Federal Office (Federal Public Defender's Office/DPU), Taisa Bittencourt, said Brazilian authorities were conducting a re-autopsy to Marins after receiving requests from the family.

The results of this autopsy are said to determine whether Brazilian authorities will file an international investigation into Marins' death or not.

Mount Rinjani is one of Indonesia's natural tourism icons that attracts thousands of climbers every year. However, with challenging terrain and rapidly changing weather, the readiness of all stakeholders is needed.
