JAKARTA - Former Minister of Trade for the period 12 August 2015 to 27 July 2016, Thomas Trikasih Lembong, and Director of Business Development of PT Perusahaan Trade Indonesia (PPI), Charles Sitorus, are scheduled to undergo a trial to read the demands in the alleged corruption case of sugar imports, Friday, July 4, 2025.

"The agenda for reading the charges," said the spokesman for the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court, Thursday night, July 3.

Thomas and Charles were charged with being involved in sugar import activities in the 2015'2016 period which allegedly caused state financial losses. During the trial process, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) presented a number of evidences, witnesses, and experts to support his indictment.

In the previous trial, when questioned as a defendant on Tuesday, July 1, Thomas stated that he had not found any errors in the import policy process he had made while in office.

"I feel called to say that even now I have not found my mistake," said Thomas before the panel of judges.

He said he had studied in depth all the Minutes of Investigation (BAP) of witnesses, data, and audit documents from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), but still did not find any losses.

"I read the BAP-BAP witnesses repeatedly. Data, facts, my numbers have been evaluated repeatedly. I read the BPKP audit back and forth, and I still can't find my fault or who I lost, how much harm I caused, and when the loss occurred," he added.

In the indictment, the prosecutor stated that Thomas Lembong was responsible for state losses of Rp515 billion from the total state losses of Rp578 billion in the sugar import activity.

The follow-up hearing with the agenda of reading demands will be one of the important moments in the legal process that has been going on since the beginning of this year.
