Israeli Attack Kills Hospital Managing Director In Gaza, Puan: This Is Not Just A Conflict Problem, But Humanity

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani expressed deep concern over the death of the Managing Director of the Hospital in Gaza, Marwan al-Sultan in an airstrike by Israel.

"Regarding what happened in Gaza, we at the DPR and the leadership of the DPR, of course, express our deepest condolences for what happened in Gaza, especially to the Managing Director of the Hospital in Gaza and the families who were victims," said Puan, Thursday, July 3.

One of the most senior doctors in Gaza, Marwan al-Sultan, and his family were killed in an air attack launched by Israel. Al-Sultan is a well-known cardiologist and serves as director of the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Sultan's death is described as a "very large loss" to Gaza's health system that has been ravaged. According to the Palestinian-based Healthcare Workers Watch (HWW) organization, al-Sultan was the 70th health worker to have died as a result of an Israeli attack in the last 50 days.

Israel's airstrikes have, of course, added to the long list of humanitarian tragedies in the Gaza Strip. Puan also hopes that similar attacks targeting medical personnel will never be carried out again by Israel.

"We hope that this does not happen again because this is not only a conflict problem that occurs there but this is a humanitarian issue," he said.

Puan also invited the whole world to respect the boundaries of the country's territory that intersect with human values. He also asked the Indonesian government to anticipate and prepare the necessary steps related to humanity in Gaza, Palestine.

"Let us both respect and respect, and take care of things that must be jointly guarded, protect areas that should not be contaminated or missed on their boundaries in the humanitarian direction," said Puan.

"And we of course ask the government and related parties to be able to mitigate, anticipate, and take the necessary steps," he concluded.
