JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto targets all villages in Indonesia to be electrified in less than four years.
"God willing, in the not too distant future we will convey electricity to every village throughout Indonesia. I think it is less than four years. My target in four years all villages in Indonesia must get electricity," Prabowo said in a video conference with the Regent of Mappi, South Papua Province, ristosimus Yohanis Agawemu, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 26.
The video conference was held at the inauguration of the operation and construction of a number of geothermal power plants (PLTP) and solar power plants (PLTS) spread across 15 provinces, at PLTP Belawan Inspector General Unit 1, Bondowoso, East Java, Thursday.
The President said the government would encourage the hard work of all parties, including PLN and the private sector to accelerate the entry of electricity in all villages in the country.
In addition, Prabowo also said the Government would build "Red and White" village cooperatives in each village, which would function as a distribution network for village production to districts to provinces and vice versa.
In line with the construction of cooperatives in each of these villages, the Government will also encourage the construction of solar power plants (PLTS).
"We will give electricity to all villages throughout Indonesia in the fastest possible time. That is my determination as President of Indonesia and we will be able and soon we will reach all villages," said the Head of State.
President Prabowo's statement was a response to the information submitted by the Regent of Mappi Kristosimus that there were still 67 villages in his area that had not yet received electricity.
"In Mappi Regency, there are approximately 162 villages. We still lack around 67 villages that have not been electrified," he said.
Kristosimus also expressed his appreciation for the central government's attention to the development of electricity infrastructure in his area.
