Fake Doctor From Bandung Tricked Women In Love Mode Arrested By Police, Raised IDR 250 Million From Victims

JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta Special Region Police arrested a man from Bandung, West Java who disguised himself as a doctor and deceived a number of women through a cyber crime of "love scamming" or fraud under the guise of love with a total loss of Rp250 million.

"The perpetrator used a false identity as a doctor named Christian Kwon and built an emotional relationship with the victim for months," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Yogyakarta Regional Police, Kombes Wirdhanto Hadicaksono, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 26.

The perpetrator with the initials MSP (29) was arrested in Bandung, West Java on June 11, 2025 after taking action from November 2023 to October 2024.

According to Wirdhanto, MSP communicated with the victims online through the introduction application and then continued via WhatsApp.

In his online profile, the perpetrator claimed to be a doctor and included a work history at a private hospital in Yogyakarta

"Fortunately, the victim is not entangled in making sex video calls or video calls which show sensitive parts of the feminine," said Wirdhanto.

However, according to him, the perpetrator continued to persuade and play with the victim's emotions.

"Reporting that if you want to commit suicide if you don't help, because it turns out that the perpetrator also hopes to pay off the sale of his apartment, so if for example the apartment is sold, it will return the debts from the victim," he said.

"After we checked, the person concerned turned out to be an English tutor," continued Wirdhanto.

One of the victims with the initials NNH, a student from Sleman, became a reporter in this case.

In almost a year, the victims experienced persuasion and emotional manipulation by the perpetrators, accompanied by financial losses.

"The victim borrowed money from his brother, including pawning a laptop, pawning a motorbike, and so on," said Wirdhanto.

Based on the investigation, the Ditreskrimsus Polda DIY has identified four victims, namely NNH from Sleman, KN from Yogyakarta, VW from Malang, and NA from Magetan. "The total loss from the victims reached Rp250 million," said Wirdhanto.

The police confiscated evidence in the form of two cell phones, three fake ID cards, seven ATM cards, one flash drive containing proof of transfer and conversation, as well as fake identity documents used by the perpetrators.

For his actions, MSP was charged with Article 51 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 35 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions and/or Article 378 of the Criminal Code concerning fraud, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and/a fine of up to Rp12 billion.
