JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the United States made it clear it wanted Iran to surrender.
"Trump points to the truth, making it clear that America will only be satisfied with Iran's surrender and defeat and nothing else," he said in an inaugural statement after the Iran-Israeli ceasefire.
Khamenei's comment refers to President Donald Trump's Truth Social post last week. Trump, through his writing, demanded Iran GIVE UP WITHOUT CONDITION.
Khamenei said the US had fundamental problems with the Iranian regime since the 1979 Islamic Revolution which brought it to power.
For him Washington has disguised its goals for years by offending Iran on human rights, women's rights, nuclear programs to missile production.
"But in his statement, he (Trump) revealed the truth, he showed his attitude," he said.
"The previous president did not say this, because this is unacceptable, unacceptable and unreasonable to tell a country to give up. They put forward various reasons, but basically they wanted Iran to give up," Khamenei added.
