JAKARTA - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) appealed to people living in the northern coastal area of the capital to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding, which peaked on June 27, 2025.

Through its official Instagram account @bpbddkijakarta, BPBD conveyed a message to residents to be alert to the possible impact of coastal flooding. "If an emergency occurs, the public can immediately contact emergency services at number 112," BPBD wrote in the upload quoted from ANTARA.

The warning was issued after information from the Class I BMKG Maritime Tanjung Priok, which predicts the potential for tidal flooding in the coastal area of Jakarta in the period from June 24 to 31, 2025.

This phenomenon is triggered by the occurrence of a super new moon which coincides with perigee when the moon is at its closest distance to the earth which will take place on June 27, 2025. This combination is estimated to cause a maximum increase in sea level height, which can trigger coastal flooding or tidal flooding at various points in northern Jakarta.

Areas that risk tidal flooding include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and areas in the Thousand Islands Regency.

Meanwhile, tidal flooding was reported to have again inundated residential areas in RW 22, Pluit, Penjaringan, North Jakarta on Sunday (22/6/2025).

"Water started to enter at around 17.00 WIB," said Head of RW 22 Pluit Village, Bani, when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (23/6/2025).
