KARANGASEM - Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, opened the Southeast Asian Youth Meeting and Culture Heritage Clinic at Jero Tumbuk Culture & Retreat, Karangasem, Bali, Sunday, June 22. With the theme Integrating Sustainability Development and Cultural Heritage for a Better Future, this event highlights the role of youth in maintaining culture and encouraging sustainable development.
This activity is the Earth's Collaboration for the Preservation of Indonesian Heritage and Southeast Asian Culture Heritage Alliance (SEACHA), based in Bangkok. Fadli encourages real cross-border actions based on the community.
"This is not an ordinary discussion forum, but a concrete action to preserve culture. From Jero Tumbuk to Besakih, participants learn directly," said Fadli Zon.
In Jero Tumbuk, participants witnessed ecotourism setting aside 15 percent of income to preserve oral traditions. At Pura Agung Besakih, they learn to manage 50,000 pilgrims per month without disturbing the sacredness.
This program also discusses tourism policies and their impact on local culture. ASEAN delegations are equipped with sustainable tourism principles and community involvement strategies.
Held June 21, 2025, the agenda was filled with cultural discussions, visits to the site, and closed cultural dinners. This program has been running since 2020, from Siak, the Philippines, to Thailand, building solidarity and capacity between youth.
I Gusti Lanang Muliarta, from Jero Tumbuk, said that his party cooperates with the community as teachers to preserve arts such as gambuh dance, sanghyang, rows of period, and subak. He hopes that this initiative can be imitated by other regions.
