TERNATE - Mount Dukono's volcanic activity in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku (Malut), continues to show an increase. In less than 12 hours, this known active volcano was reported to have experienced two eruptions.
"The Hamlet eruption with a column height of ash was observed as high as 1,500 meters," said Officer of the Dukono Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in North Halmahera, Bambang Sugiono, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 18.
The second eruption occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 17.00 WIT, with a column height of ash reaching 1,500 meters above the peak.
The ash column that vomited in the afternoon eruption was seen white with thick intensity and leaning towards the northwest, following the wind.
This activity was also clearly recorded on the Pos PGA Dukono seismograph, which recorded a maximum amplitude of 34 millimeters with an earthquake duration of 51.10 seconds.
Previously in the morning, at around 07.24 WIT, Mount Dukono also experienced an eruption with a column of ash rising as high as 1,200 meters.
Until now, Mount Dukono, which has a height of 1,087 meters above sea level, is still at Level II or Alert Status.

This status indicates that the mountain is experiencing an increase in volcanic activity and the potential for eruptions can continue to occur.
Given the high intensity of volcanic activity and the potential hazards caused, the people around Mount Dukono and visitors and tourists are advised not to carry out any activities within a 4 kilometer radius of the Maupang Warirang Crater.
"Because eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occur and the distribution of ash follows the direction and speed of the wind, so that the land area of ash does not remain," said Bambang.
Mount Dubono is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia and has been recorded to have experienced an eruption almost without a break since the early 20th century.
