JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has confirmed that dozens of Indonesian citizens have been detained in Israel, Jordan, and Iran due to the escalation of the conflict and firing missiles between Tehran and Telaviv since last weekend.

The Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha said the Indonesian citizens consisted of 42 Indonesian pilgrims in Israel, eight Indonesian pilgrims in Jordan, and two Indonesian pilgrims in Tehran, Iran.

"The Indonesian citizens who made the short trip were stranded due to the closure of the airspace and the flight stopped," Judha said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 17.

He ensured that the Indonesian citizens had received assistance from the Indonesian Embassy in Amman and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs director stated that his party together with representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in the Middle East, particularly in Amman and Tehran, continue to monitor the situation and dynamics in Iran and Israel.

According to Judha, until now there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens being victims in the escalation of the conflict between the two warring countries.

Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated sharply after Israel's coordinated airstrikes on several locations in Tehran, including military and nuclear facilities, on Friday (13/6), which Iran immediately responded to in a matter of hours.

Iran said as many as 78 people died on the first day of Israeli attacks, and dozens more, including children, were victims on the second day.

The conflict caused an indirect cessation of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States mediated by Oman. The sixth round of talks is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Muskat.
