JAKARTA - Turkey will produce and export 48 KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia based on a new agreement in the defense sector, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday (11/6).

In an upload on platform X, Erdogan praised the KAAN project contributors, especially the Defense Industry Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI), as the export agreement was signed, whose value set a record.

Indonesia's local capabilities will also be utilized in the manufacture of KAAN.

"I hope this agreement, which emphasizes the progress and achievements of the domestic and national defense industry, will be beneficial for Turkey and Indonesia," said Erdogan as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, June 11.

KAAN, the 5th generation fighter jet made by TAI, made its inaugural flight last year at a speed of 230 knots and an altitude of 8,000 feet (about 2,438 meters).

Currently, Turkey is one of the few countries that master this advanced technology.
