Jakarta Will Hold Car Free Night Every Sunday Night

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will hold a car free night in the Sudirman-Thamrin area every Saturday night.

This motor vehicle-free night activity, according to Rano, will be held because it sees many Jakarta residents exercising at night.

"What we will try is Car Free Night. We will start at 10 pm. Because it turns out that many people also exercise at night," Rano told reporters, Sunday, June 9.

Car free night activities this Sunday night, continued Rano, are still in the planning stage. The plan is that the car free night will begin after the celebration of Jakarta's 498th anniversary which starts on June 22.

Along with that, the DKI Provincial Government is still formulating the implementation of car free nights, such as lighting along the road to road opening and closing arrangements in the area.

"So Saturday, we have Car Free Night at night. Maybe we will start at 10 pm. Well, there we are close (on the road). But of course the performance is different. It will definitely be with a lighting," explained Rano.

"Maybe we start after DKI's birthday. Because of that, we do quite a lot of preparation," continued the man who is familiarly called Doel.

Rano added that the DKI Provincial Government also plans to expand the CFD to five city areas by choosing strategic locations to further suppress carbon emissions in the capital city.

"With the car free day and car free night, hopefully the happiness and health of the people of Jakarta will increase," he added.
